How often a moment sweetly and unexpectedly unfolds to stir in us gratitude for some memory long ago forgotten, or for the presence of someone in our life. My favorite poet, Anna Akhmatova, seems to know this feeling, too, when she writes, in her poem There are Four of Us, " -- O look! -- that fresh dark elderberry branch is like a letter from Martina in the mail."
Finding a lady slipper in the woods is always an unexpected moment; it takes me back ten years ago when a friend and I came upon a magnificent ring of these wild orchids on a forest walk. Seeing Chancey of the Maury River in my favorite local bookstore the other day overwhelmed me with gratitude for independent booksellers, for school horses and the students who love them, and for the magic that is Candlewick Press.
I hope your June is full of unexpectedly sweet moments and magical friendships! Thank you for visiting my website,
Gigi
